Apollo 12 lunar landing. Astronaut unfurls the American flag during the Apollo 12 mission, the second manned mission to land on the Moon. Apollo 12 was launched on 14 November 1969, arriving on the Moon in the Ocean of Storms on 19 November 1969. It was the first lunar mission to make a pinpoint landing, arriving within 200 metres of its target. Charles Conrad & Alan Bean made two excursions on the surface for a total of 7 hours 45 minutes, whilst Richard Gordon orbited in the command module. Conrad & Bean inspected a probe on the Moon's surface, set up a scientific station and collected 34 kilogrammes of rocks. Apollo 12 returned to Earth on 24 November 1969.
