Anti-fracking demonstration. Demonstrators at a protest against a plan to allow US Ecology's waste facility to accept higher amounts of radioactive waste from oil and gas fracking operations. Fracking is a drilling technique used to extract gas from shale deposits. A mixture of sand, chemicals and water is pumped under high pressure from the surface to underground horizontal wells. The pressure forms fissures (fractures) in the shale, allowing gas to flow to the surface. Photographed in Detroit, Michigan, USA.
