Description
Antarctic octopus (Pareledone sp.). Octopuses of the genus Pareledone are found on the continental shelf of Antarctica and its surrounding islands, to depths of 1000 metres. They tend to be relatively small: the largest species reaches 35 centimetres in length. Because of the inaccessible nature of their habitat, little is known about their behaviour and life history. Octopuses are classified as cephalopod molluscs. Photographed in the sea off South Georgia Island.
