Anglo-Saxon coins. 19th-century artwork of the obverse and reverse of Anglo-Saxon silver pennies. These coins were among those found in 1817 in Dorking, Surrey, UK. The rulers named are: Aethelweard of East Anglia (died 854), Ceolwulf I of Mercia (reigned 821-823), Beornwulf of Mercia (d.826), Wiglaf of Mercia (d.839), Berhtulf of Mercia (r.839-852), Ecgbeorht of Wessex (r.802-839), and Ethelwulf of Wessex (r.839-858). This artwork illustrated a paper on the discovery, written by British numismatist and archaeologist Taylor Combe (1774-1826). Published in Volume 19 (1821) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
