Description
Amethyst. Amethyst crystals, a variety of quartz, a form of silica (silicon dioxide, Si.O2). The purple colour in amethyst crystals is caused by the presence of compounds of iron or manganese. It is often used in jewellery, especially in rings. Although amethyst is common in Europe and the American continent, the finest specimens occur in India, Sri Lanka and Brazil.
