Portion of the Alpha Regio in the Lavinia Region of Venus, Magellan radar image. The terrain shows intense folding, faulting, shearing, compression and extension. The complex pattern of intersecting ridges and valleys is called tessera. Rough areas appear bright, flat ones dark. The image covers an area about 170 kilometres by 210 kilometres.
