Description
Einstein's patent. Swiss patent for a new design for a refrigerator submitted in 1928 by the German-Swiss physicist Albert Einstein (1879-1955) and Leo Szilard. Einstein was a Technical Officer in the Swiss Patent Office from 1902 to 1909. In 1905 he published papers on the photoelectric effect (the liberation of electrons from a substance exposed to electromagnetic radiation), Brownian motion (the random movement of suspended particles) and the special theory of relativity. In 1915 he published the general theory of relativity. His paper on the photoelectric effect won him the 1921 Nobel Prize for Physics.
