Description
Trophoblasts. Fluorescence deconvolution micrograph highlighting cellular structures in trophoblast cells. Trophoblasts are the first cells to differentiate from a fertilised egg (ovum), forming the outer layer of the blastocyst, an early stage of embryo formation. The trophoblast layer eventually forms the placenta. The fluorescent markers used here are PLAC1 (placenta-specific protein 1, red) and GFP (green fluorescent protein, green), staining the golgi apparatus. Cell nuclei (blue) have been highlighted with a DAPI stain.
