Description
Forensics fingerprinting material testing. Researcher removing a fingerprint impression mould from one of the thumbs of a dead body (cadaver). This work is being done as part of research into new materials being used for fingerprint impression moulds. This new silicone-based elastomer material is designed to dry on contact with air when a setting agent is added prior to use. In this research, this new material was shown to set faster and produce clearer fingerprint detail than a comparison material being used (see C001/067 and C001/3071). Cadavers may need to be fingerprinted for identification purposes. Photographed in 2007, at Cardiff University, Wales.
