Artist's Description
Cerebral aneurysm. Coloured angiogram (blood vessel X-ray) of the brain and neck of a 28-year-old woman with a cerebral aneurysm (centre left) in a brain artery. An aneurysm occurs when an artery wall weakens and swells. If it bursts, an aneurysm can cause severe internal bleeding. This image was obtained during interventional angiography to treat the aneurysm. The aneurysm is in a carotid artery at the level of the brain's anterior communicating artery.
