Artist's Description
International Space Station (ISS) orbiting above the Earth. The solar panels (brown) provide the ISS with power. The ISS is a joint effort between NASA, the European Space agency (ESA), the Russian space agency, Canada, Japan and Brazil. It orbits at an altitude of 350 kilometres and when completed will be over 100 metres in length. It has been manned since October 2000 and is scheduled for completion in 2004. Photographed from the Space Shuttle Endeavour, during the STS- 108 mission, between 5th and 17th December 2001.
