Early morning shot of a Sawfly (Dolerus niger) resting on a blade of grass in a water meadow habitat. This species is one of the first to emerge in the spring and is relatively common, most likely seen on the wing flying around trees in field margins. The larvae feed on grasses including cereals. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in May.
