Artist's Description
Particle collisions. Particle tracks from the first 7 TeV (tera electron volts) proton-proton collisions seen by the ALICE (a large ion collider experiment) detector at CERN (the European particle physics laboratory) near Geneva, Switzerland, on 30th March 2010. Each collision, produced after the ions had been accelerated by the large hadron collider (LHC), leads to the production of many subatomic particles. Shaded areas are elements of the detector.
