Artist's Description

Refraction. White light being refracted as it passes through a triangular prism to produce a spectrum (rainbow, across centre). Refraction is the change of direction of a wave when it passes from one medium to another at an angle. Different colours of light have different wavelengths. The white light is split into a spectrum because the amount of refraction varies with the wavelength.
