Description
Red admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) in flight. The butterfly's wing colouration may help camouflage it during hibernation. The adult form inhabits woodland. The female lays her eggs on plants in the nettle family (Urticaceae). The red admiral is a migrant species, flying north in summer. It is found in Europe, North America, North Africa and Asia.
