Description
Tumour blood vessel. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a section of tissue from a tumour to show the blood supply from a sarcoma. One of the reasons tumours can grow quickly is because they trigger the formation of new blood vessels to bring blood to the tumour. This image is from an alveolar soft part sarcoma, or ASPS, a cancer that can come from different types of soft tissue, such as muscle, fat, or nerves. It may also be called alveolar soft tissue sarcoma, alveolar sarcoma of soft parts, or ASP sarcoma. This shows a fractured artery containing a clot of red blood cells. Magnification: x400 when printed 10cm wide.
