Description
Seahorse. Coloured X-ray of the external bony skeleton of a seahorse (Hippocampus sp.). The gill cavity is seen behind the eye. Seahorses propel themselves slowly with their fins (not seen) and anchor themselves with their tails. It is the male seahorse that incubates the fertilized eggs in a brood pouch on his abdomen. Hippocampus species are found throughout the world in tropical and temperate saltwater habitats.
