Description
Forensics fingerprinting material testing. Researcher applying a newly developed silicone-based elastomer material to the tip of one of the fingers of a dead body (cadaver) to obtain a fingerprint impression. This work is being done as part of research into new materials being used for fingerprint impression moulds. The material dries on contact with air when a setting agent is added prior to use. In this research, this new material was shown to set faster and produce clearer fingerprint detail than a comparison material being used. Cadavers may need to be fingerprinted for identification purposes. Photographed in 2007, at Cardiff University, Wales.
