Earth's magnetosphere. Supercomputer model of the Earth's magnetosphere, the region in space controlled by the Earth's internal magnetic field. Semi-transparent surfaces represent particle density (red is high, blue is low), lines surrounding the Earth (centre) represent magnetic field and yellow ribbons represent the paths of charged solar wind particles. The magnetic field lines extending towards the right of the image is called the magnetotail. The Sun (not visible) would be located on the left.
