Artist's Description

Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Deer tick head (Ixodes scapularis). A blood sucking arachnid that can cause disease in humans and animals. Ixodes sp. can transmit Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacterium that causes Lyme disease. This disease is characterized by fever and joint inflammation. Magnification: x44 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
