Artist's Description
Cancer cell division. Coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a section through a cancer cell dividing by mitosis into two new daughter cells. This is during the telophase (fourth stage) of mitotic division, when the cell's genetic material (blue) has been separated via the spindle into two identical populations. These cells are from a Ewing sarcoma, a malignant round-cell tumor. It is a rare disease in which cancer cells are found in the bone or in soft tissue. It mainly affects children and young people, but is also seen in adults. It's more common in males than females.Magnification: x3000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide
