Artist's Description
Apollo lunar module. Illustration of the Apollo Lunar Module ascent stage, cut away to show the crew cabin, control panel and other components. The Lunar Module was used to land two astronauts on the surface of the Moon, and consisted of two sections. The descent stage allowed a powered landing on the lunar surface, and served as a launch pad for the ascent stage. The ascent stage contained the cabin with flight controls, and propulsion systems for return of the craft to lunar orbit and rendezvous with the Apollo Command/Service Module.
