Description
Whole-body radiation monitor. Test subject being scanned by a portable whole-body radiation monitor as part of a training exercise for an emergency. The subject sits in the chair, and the scanners are moved over his body to detect any radioactive substances he may have ingested. Whole-body monitors are used to check the health of workers who work with radioactive materials, and those exposed in nuclear accidents or disasters. If radioactive material is not removed from the person's body, or it accumulates in a critical area, it could cause fatal radiation poisoning. This work is being carried out by the UK's Health Protection Agency.
