Artist's Description
Computer illustration of the suborbital, hypersonic passenger transport being studied by the SART (Space Launcher Systems Analysis) group at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR). This design has been studied since 2005. The latest designs are 65 metres long, carrying 50 to 100 passengers and 2 crew. Rocket engines and boosters are used to reach altitudes of 80 kilometres and speeds 20 times that of sound. It would take 90 minutes in gliding sub-orbital flight to reach destinations thousands of kilometres away on the other side of the world. By 2012, several configurations had been designed, with the latest being SpaceLiner 7.
