Mercury seven astronauts in their spacesuits. The astronauts are: front row, left to right: Walter Schirra, Donald Slayton, John Glenn and M. Scott Carpenter; back row, left to right: Alan Shepard, Virgil Grissom and Leroy Cooper. This group of astronauts, also known as the Original Seven and Astronaut Group 1, are the only group of astronauts to have flown on all of NASA's manned spacecraft in the 20th century. They are wearing the Navy Mark IV high-altitude pressure suit developed by the B.F. Goodrich Company and the US Navy.
