Description
Goldschmidt periodic table classification. Modern periodic table showing 118 elements from hydrogen to oganesson, colour-coded according to how they are found in nature. This classification is named after the Swiss-Norwegian geochemist Victor Goldschmidt (1888-1947). The types are: atmophile (light pink); lithophile (brown); siderophile (green); chalcophile (beige), very rare or synthetic (light purple). Atmophiles are associated with the atmosphere; lithophiles react with oxygen and form light minerals; siderophiles form heavier minerals; chalcophiles react with sulphur and are between lithophiles and siderophiles in density within the Earth.
