Description
Comet tails. Page from Astronomicum Caesareum describing observations of comets in 1531, including one of Halley's comet (26th August). Astronomicum Caesareum is an astronomical atlas that was made for King Charles V in 1540 by the German printer Petrus Apianus (1495-1552). Apianus is well known for his comet observations, as he was the first to present a diagram showing that a comet's tail always points away from the sun.
