19th century British and Irish scientists. Group portrait of the British and Irish scientists (from left to right): Faraday, Huxley, Wheatstone, Brewster and Tyndall. Michael Faraday (1791- 1867) was an English physicist and chemist who worked on electromagnetism and invented the electric motor. Thomas Huxley (1825-1895) was an English biologist who popularized Darwin's theory of evolution. David Brewster (1781-1868) was a Scottish physicist who studied optics. Charles Wheatstone (1802-1875) was an English physicist who invented the printing telegraph, concertina and stereoscope. John Tyndall (1820-1893) was an Irish physicist who did research on light.
