1554 Woodblock in the text of lycanthrope. Alongside accounts of real animals and places, Sebastian Munster in his great book, the Cosmographia, also included much of what was simply believed to exist in late medieval times. Hence this lycanthropic devil or demon turns up printed on many pages.
