Skin cancer. Light micrograph (LM) of a section of skin showing a pilar tumour of the scalp. Proliferating trichilemmal cysts, also known as pilar tumors, are slow-growing lobulated masses most commonly found on the scalp of elderly women.The prognosis of pilar tumours is usually good with only occasionally malignant behaviour. Here the piled up epithelium (purple) of the cyst is seen. Magnification: x 150 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
