Light streamers inside a plasma globe. A plasma globe is a glass sphere filled with a gas at low pressure. In the centre is a metal ball charged with electricity. When the voltage is high enough, the electricity discharges across the sphere to the glass wall. The discharge ionises the gas along its path, causing it to emit light.
