Description
Zagros Mountains, Iran, satellite image. These are the foothills of the Zagros Mountains that descend to Iran's Persian Gulf coast (blue, bottom left). Khormuj peak (upper centre) rises to a height of 1960 metres. Vegetation is green and the mountains are seen with heavily eroded valleys running down their sides. A loop (blue) of the Mand River is at lower right, while a tributary waters the valley that runs down from top left. Fields (rectangles) and towns (grey) are just visible in the valleys. The image is around 75 kilometres wide. Image acquired in visible and infrared wavelengths on 2 February 2000 by the Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) sensor on NASA's Landsat 7 satellite.
