Artist's Description

Topography of the Moon, 1877 illustration. This depiction of the Moon's craters and maria is based on photography by British astronomer Warren de La Rue and Scottish astronomer James Nasmyth, and a map prepared by German astronomers Wilhelm Beer and Johann Heinrich von Maedler. Illustration published in 'Le Ciel' (The Sky, 1877) by French author Amedee Guillemin.
