Description
Synaptosomes, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). Synaptosomes (brown circles) are sac-like structures that form from pre-synapstic nerve terminals during the homogenisation of nerve tissue. They contain synaptic vesicles and mitochondria (orange), enclosed in a phospholipid membrane. Synaptosomes are used to study synaptic transmission.
