Sedimentary rock formations. View of a road running between sedimentary rock formations. The rock is different colours according to its composition; most of the reddish rock is sandstone with differing amounts of mineral inclusions. The layered effect which can be seen in some regions of the rock results from the different erosion rates in different strata; layers of softer rock erode more quickly. Photographed at Zion National Park, Utah, USA.
