Artist's Description

Model released. DNA research. Researcher preparing a genetic probe, a specific fragment of DNA, used in laboratory tests. The genetic probe is radioactively labelled and added to fragments of DNA which is to be studied. The probe will bind to the same genetic material in the DNA and its position in the DNA sequence may be visualised on an X-ray film. Genetic probes find their main use in antenatal diagnosis of genetic disorders.
