Artist's Description
Pre-D-Day landings bombings. Bomb-cratered target area at the V-1 launching and storage site at Beauvoir, France. This area was bombed twelve times by the Ninth Air Force unit of the US Air Force as part of the preparations for the D-Day landings. The V-1 was a flying bomb developed and used by Nazi Germany in the later stages of World War II. The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 were the largest seaborne invasion in history. They successfully liberated the Normandy coast of Nazi-occupied France, contributing to the Allied victory in World War II.
