Description
Passive solar heating. Transparent insulation (TI) on the south side of a self-sufficient solar- powered house. TI is an insulator of heat but is partly transparent to light. It allows buildings to use the rays of the sun to provide direct heat and lighting. The aluminium-coated blinds (upper right) allow the temperature to be controlled when the sun is too bright. This demonstration house in Freiburg, Germany was completed in 1992.
