Newton's optics, 18th-century diagrams. Optics was one of the subjects studied by English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton (1642-1727). He investigated prisms, lenses, telescopes, and the spectrum of light among other phenomena, with light rays through prisms and lenses shown here. He published his results and theories in 'Opticks' (1704). This page is from 'Opera' (1779-85), the collected works of English physicist and mathematician Isaac Newton (1642-1727).
