Artist's Description

Mercury. Vial containing a sample of the transition metal Mercury (Hg). Mercury has a melting point of -38.8 degrees Celsius, making it the only metal that is liquid at standard conditions for temperature and pressure (0 degrees Celsius and 1 bar pressure). It has an extremely high surface tension and will form droplets that appear to roll around on hard surfaces. Mercury is also highly toxic.
