Medical analysis of virus samples. Doctor using a microscope to examine cellular cultures of virus samples. He is entering results into a computer. The cultures are being studied for the cytopathic effect (CPE), where cellular structure degenerates due to the multiplication of viruses in the cells. A digital video camera is mounted on top of the microscope, and the output can be displayed on a monitor, such as the one at far right. Photographed in an NHS hospital in Cambridge, in the UK.
