Artist's Description

Humanist scholars in debate. Coloured woodcut illustration depicting six prominent humanists in discussion over an open book. The scholars are (left to right) Guarino da Verona, Maffeo Vegio, Pietro Decembrio, Leonardus Aretinus, Johannes Poggius and Petrus Gualengus. This is taken from the title page to Angelo Decembrio's Politiae literae, printed at Ausburg in 1540.
