Description
Free range eggs. Free range eggs are laid by chickens which are allowed to roam an enclosure at will, rather than being restricted to a coop. The eggs produced have a harder shell, and (many people say) taste far better than those produced by close-confined battery chickens. A large proportion of customers prefer free range eggs due to their perception that the lot of a free range chicken is a happy one. Free range egg production is far more labour and land intensive, thus incurring a cost premium in the shops.
