Description
Forensics fingerprinting material testing. Researcher writing identification details on a fingerprint impression mould taken from one of the fingers of a dead body (cadaver). This work is being done as part of research into new materials being used for fingerprint impression moulds. This silicone-based elastomer material is designed to dry on contact with air when a setting agent is added prior to use. In this research, a new material (see C001/3064 to C001/3066) was shown to set faster and produce clearer fingerprint detail than the comparison material being used here. Cadavers may need to be fingerprinted for identification purposes. Photographed in 2007, at Cardiff University, Wales.
