Description
Brain anatomy. Artwork of a human head and brain in profile, with the brain (red) shown as a mid-sagittal section. The brain is the nerve centre controlling bodily function and thought. It interprets nerve signals received from the rest of the body and initiates the appropriate responses. The folded area is the cerebrum, the region responsible for intelligent thought, language, conscious movement and memory. Behind the ear is the cerebellum, which controls balance, posture and muscular co-ordination. Above the ear are various parts of the limbic system and the structures joining the two brain hemispheres.
