Description
Ancient Persian carvings. Persian figures carved into stone, which was found in the ruined city of Persepolis, situated in modern day Iran. The figures may be depicting a ceremony or feast, the figure at left is carrying a small animal and the figures at centre are carrying bowls and cups. The city was built by Darius I, who reigned from 522- 486 BC, as a ceremonial capital. It was destroyed by Alexander the Great in 330 BC.
