Artist's Description

Amazon River. Boat on the Amazon where the Rio Negro and the Solimoes meet. The Rio Negro is the largest tributary of the Amazon. Solimoes is the name given to early stretches of the Amazon from the border of Brazil and Peru to its confluence with the Rio Negro. The Rio Negro is the largest blackwater river in the world. Blackwater rivers are slow-flowing rivers that collect a lot of vegetation. As this vegetation decays, tannin leaches out and colours the water dark brown. Photographed in Brazil.
