Description
20 years of the World Wide Web. Checks being carried out on the world's first web server. In December 1990, the world's first World Wide Web (WWW) server ran on this NeXT computer at CERN, the European centre for particle physics near Geneva, Switzerland. The machine was set up by Tim Berners-Lee and Robert Cailliau. Their invention, originally to improve data communication between particle physicists, made the World Wide Web possible. This check was carried out by a team from the Association aBCM in Lausanne, Switzerland. Photographed at CERN on 15 August 2009, during celebrations of 20 years of the World Wide Web.
