Description
Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte Galaxy, composite image. Combined optical and ultraviolet image of Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte (WLM) Galaxy, part of the Milky Way's Local Group of galaxies. WLM stands alone at the group's outer edges, and is remote and secluded. It may have never interacted with any other Local Group galaxy in the history of the Universe. Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte Galaxy is around 3 million light years from Earth, in the constellation of Cetus. This image was obtained by the OmegaCAM on the VLT Survey Telescope (VST), in Paranal, Chile. Image released in March 2016.
