Artist's Description

Whale skeleton. Hundreds of whales become stranded on land every year. They may come near to the shore in search of food or because they are injured. These bones are vertebrae, part of the whale's backbone. Photographed on a beach on the Gulf of California, a body of water between the Mexican mainland and Baja California.
